Sweet & Spicy Ahi Tuna with Green Goddess Slaw

So the lighting wasn’t NEARLY as good as the taste of these tuna steaks. But I’m over it! I can not get enough seared ahi tuna in my life if I tried - it’s so darn good and soaks up such amazing flavor! Cooking with seafood is one of my favorite things to do & things to eat! For me - I love to keep the things that go along with it light & fresh & bright. So last nights choice was Sweet & Spicy Ahi Tuna With Mango Salsa over a Citrus Slaw. MMM MMM MMM. Cheers to better in taste than lighting 🥂

ingredients:

(this was for 2 people as entree)

  • 3 small (totally forget to look at the weight 😶) ahi tuna steaks from @traderjoes (or wherever you find yours!)

  • 1/3 cup @kikkomanusa soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp minced garlic

  • dash of @tabasco

  • dash of @mccormickspice chili powder

  • small sprinkle of sugar or honey (I used a raw stevia packet it’s all I had!)

  • and mango salsa to top (mine is store bought!)

the slaw:

  • 1 cup shredded cabbage

  • 1/2 cup shredded carrot

  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion

  • juice of 1/2 lemon

  • juice 1/2 lime

  • 2 tbsp @traderjoes green goddess dressing

  • s&p

how to:

  1. lay filled defrosted tuna steaks in a dish in 1 layer. Mix the soy sauce + garlic + Tabasco + chili powder + honey or sugar in a small bowl & top each steak (flip them over to get both sides) & let marinate 1 hour minimum

  2. make your slaw! Toss all ingredients in a large bowl, best to do in advance so the crispy cabbage wilts a little bit!

  3. sear your tuna! On high over the stove, heat the pan (important you do this first to get a good crust!)

  4. once hot, one steak at a time - add to the hot pan & cook for 1 min on each side (for a more rare middle) remove from the heat and let sit 5 min before slicing (repeat for all steaks!)

  5. add a good serving of your slaw to the plate, top with sliced ahi tuna + mango salsa on top- enjoy!

*if you want more soy flavor, feel free to drizzle on top! Or make an additional sauce with shallot * garlic * soy * red pepper flake over the stove, just heat until combined & fragrant!
